A seven-year-old boy has died days after he was pulled from the sea in an incident that also claimed the life of his teenage cousin and her mother.
Musa Ahmed, his cousin Sameeha Rahman, 15, and her mother Shelina Rahman, 41, got into difficulties while in the water at West Mersea Beach, Essex, on July 22. Shelina and Sameeha, from Ilford, east London, died at the scene. Musa suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Family confirms boy's death
Musa's family confirmed he had died. In a statement shared by police, they said: 'We would also like to thank the Royal London Hospital intensive care unit team of doctors and nurses who demonstrated outstanding care and dignity for whilst we have been at the hospital. We would also like to thank the whole community for their support and prayers.'
The family added: 'We would appreciate privacy during this very difficult time.'
Cousin died trying to save him
A family friend previously said Sameeha was trying to rescue Musa when she died. Dr Mansur Rahman, Shelina's husband and Sameeha's father, said last week that his son, elder daughter and other relatives had survived. Dr Rahman, leader of Jubo Dal UK, the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in India, said: 'I have not been able to answer many phone calls, but please know that I have not intentionally ignored anyone. The overwhelming support, love, and prayers from all of you mean more to us than words can express.'
