Boy, 6, killed in Llanfairfechan crash; man arrested

A six-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle in Llanfairfechan, North Wales.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5pm on Thursday following reports of a collision involving a child. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest and investigation

North Wales Police said a 39-year-old man has been arrested and is helping with police enquiries. The family of the child are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective Inspector Tim Evans, from North Wales Police's serious collision investigation unit, said the thoughts of the force are with the family. He appealed to anyone who saw the incident or may have dashcam footage to get in touch.

He stated: "Our thoughts are with the young boy's family and friends at this extremely difficult time. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact us by calling 101, quoting reference O162122."

Community reaction

Hundreds of people have taken to social media to express their sadness at the tragedy. One person wrote on Facebook: "May this dear child rest in peace and we will pray for his family who must be devastated." Another said: "My God! To everyone involved in this tragedy my thought are truely with you. I hope his parents will be able to see the outpouring of grief and the love. The people across North wales are currently thinking of you. X."

North Wales Police said: "North Wales Police were called shortly after 5pm this evening (Thursday 1 October) following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a child in Llanfairfechan. Tragically, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a six-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The family are being supported by specially trained Family Liaison Officers. A 39-year-old man has been arrested and is helping with Police enquiries."
