Fatal crash and separate accident within minutes
A six-year-old boy who died in a car crash just minutes after his father suffered life-changing injuries in a separate incident has been named locally as Cohen. The boy was involved in a collision between a white Volkswagen Golf and a parked white Citroen Relay van in Skellow, Doncaster. He died in hospital on July 1, six days after the crash.
In a separate incident, Cohen's father was knocked off his bike by a motorist, sustaining life-changing injuries. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that a 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and other motoring offences has been bailed pending further enquiries. The driver of the van is assisting with police enquiries.
Fundraiser launched for family
A fundraiser launched by Leanne Hone has raised more than £2,000 from 52 supporters. The page reads: 'Our community is coming together to support a local family whose lives were changed forever after two devastating accidents occurred just minutes apart. Tragically, these heartbreaking events claimed the life of a beautiful 6-year-old boy Cohen.'
'His father also suffered life-changing injuries and now faces a long and uncertain road to recovery. The family is left not only grieving the unimaginable loss of their little boy, but also facing the physical, emotional, and financial challenges that lie ahead.'
Rave planned as fundraiser
A rave is being planned at Skellow Grange Working Men's Club. Co-organiser Chloe Rayner said: 'Me and Jack Godber have put our heads together as well as our hearts to plan a fundraiser event for my family that sadly lost their six-year-old little boy recently. And nothing brings people together more than a rave.'
