A six-year-old boy died after falling from his bike into the path of an oncoming van, an inquest heard. Harrison Glynne Jones was struck by the white Ford Transit tipper outside his north Wales home at around 5pm on Thursday, October 1.
An inquest into his death was opened by John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, at Ruthin County Hall on Monday. The hearing was told that Harrison died from a head injury following the collision on Mill Road in Llanfairfechan, reports North Wales Live.
Coroner's account of the incident
The coroner said Harrison had been with a friend when he fell from his pedal cycle onto the road. Mr Gittins said: "Sadly there was a passing Ford Transit Tipper vehicle and he was struck by the vehicle as he fell into the roadway."
Harrison was pronounced dead by a paramedic at 5.27pm that evening. Mr Gittins adjourned the inquest for further investigations to take place.
Community fundraiser exceeds £28,000
The community of Llanfairfechan has been left devastated by Harrison's death and a fundraiser started to support the family has raised more than £28,000. Kate Jones, who set up the fundraiser, said it would help towards funeral costs and support the family as they grieve their loss.
Kate wrote: "On Thursday, October 1, our family's world was changed forever when Kayleigh and Daryl's beautiful six-year-old son Harrison was tragically hit by a vehicle outside of his own home and sadly passed away."
"There are no words that can truly describe the heartbreak and devastation his parents, sisters and our whole family are experiencing. A child should never be taken from their family so suddenly, under such tragic circumstances and we are all struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss."
"Harrison was a cheeky chappy, full of character with a personality that could light up a room, and he was loved more deeply than words could ever express."
"Harrison's mum and dad are facing the unimaginable task of saying goodbye to their precious little boy, while trying to somehow navigate life without him so we have set up this fundraiser to help Harrison's parents through the difficult weeks and months ahead."
"The money raised will help towards funeral and memorial costs, as well as helping his parents with rent, household bills, food and other essential expenses while they take time away from work to grieve and be with their family."
"Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference and help take away some of the financial burden at a time when Harrison's parents should be able to focus on grieving their precious son."
"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, support and generosity during this heartbreaking time. Forever loved, forever missed, forever six. Rest in peace Harrison Glynne Jones."
