A six-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in a seaside town in North Wales. The incident occurred in Llanfairfechan, Conwy county, shortly after 5pm yesterday.
Emergency services were called following reports of a crash involving a child and a vehicle. The boy was found seriously injured and, despite efforts to save him, he died at the scene. His family is being supported by specialist officers.
Man arrested and road closed
A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash and is helping officers with enquiries, North Wales Police confirmed. A stretch of Pentre Uchaf road remains closed today between Pen-Y-Bryn and Bryn Road, and people have been asked to avoid the area.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Inspector Tim Evans said: 'Our thoughts are with the young boy's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.'
'An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area at the time, to contact us by calling 101, quoting reference O162122.'
Tributes paid to the boy
Hundreds of people paid tribute to the boy on social media after news of the incident was shared. One person said: 'Heartbreaking news. My thoughts are with the little one's family and friends, as well as the wider school and village community.' Another said: 'Absolutely heartbreaking, such a lovely little boy – sending the family so much love at this devastating time.'
