A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot near a mosque in Birmingham on Wednesday evening. West Midlands Police confirmed the teenager sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The shooting occurred on Bowyer Road, close to St Saviours Road, in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham, shortly before 5:30pm on July 1, 2026. Emergency services responded swiftly, and a large police presence remains at the scene.

Despite the proximity to a mosque, police stated that at this early stage, they do not believe the incident is linked to the place of worship. Officers are conducting forensic and CCTV enquiries and speaking with local residents.
