An 11-year-old boy was injured in an alleged dog attack in north Manchester on Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a 31-year-old man.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers were called to Scotland Hall Road in Newton Heath at around 4pm to reports of Bullmastiff-type dogs "on the loose".

The force was told that the boy had been bitten on the elbow, with his injury believed to be "minor".

Arrest and seizure

A GMP spokesperson said the man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an aggressive animal. One dog was seized, and two others were placed in kennels. Their breeds have not yet been confirmed.

Police presence at the scene

Pictures from the scene showed a large number of police vehicles in the area, including specialist Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) officers, the Manchester Evening News reports.
