Boy, 11, Bitten Helping Woman in Dog Attack

An 11-year-old boy was bitten on the thigh by a dog in Newton Heath after he rushed to help a woman who was screaming, his mother has said. The incident happened on Scotland Hall Road at around 4pm on Thursday, October 8.

A large number of police officers attended the scene following reports of Bullmastiff-type dogs being on the loose. Sarah McKenna said her son Frankee heard a woman screaming in the park on the street and went over on his bike to try to help. He was then bitten on the thigh by one of the dogs and had to go to hospital for treatment.

Mother Praises Son's Bravery

Sarah said she was proud of Frankee for trying to help and described him as very brave. Although she was not there at the time, she said her son and witnesses had told her what happened.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Sarah said: "The three dogs ran into the park with no people at all about, but then they went after a lady who had three dogs with her further down the park. They were being aggressive and vicious so the youth club staff shouted the kids to get out of the park, so they all did then this lady was screaming.

"Frankee then got on his bike and rode over to her to help her. One of them then bit him on his thigh."

Police Seize Dogs and Arrest Man

The lady took him off his bike and put him in a tree away from the dogs. Then the police turned up, some of them had guns, and everything was taped off. Sarah said her son went to hospital where he was given antibiotics. He is now fine but said he will not be going back on the park for a while.

"It was very brave, I'm proud of him," Sarah added. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said one dog was seized and two others were placed in kennels. Their breeds have not been confirmed. A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an aggressive animal, the GMP spokesperson added.
