Bodybuilding influencer Ángel Rodríguez Mora, 30, has been arrested on suspicion of killing his parents and critically wounding his 13-year-old brother in San Pedro Cholula, Mexico. Police found the suspect’s father, Ángel Ponciano, 70, and mother, Luz Maria Morales, 54, dead from bullet wounds. The teenager was seriously injured and remains in hospital under a reserved prognosis.
The Attack
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, after neighbours reported screaming and gunfire. Ángel allegedly called emergency services himself. Officers arriving at the scene found the door open and the suspect behaving erratically. He told police: “Come into my house, come and see how God is calling me and wants his will to be done. Come up to my paradise.” He was arrested on the spot and handed over to the Public Ministry as the prime suspect for homicide and causing injury.
Investigation and Background
Authorities are examining claims of earlier domestic violence within the family. Reports indicate Ángel had been battling severe substance addiction and had left a drug rehabilitation centre just two weeks before the killings. He worked as a personal trainer and bodybuilding coach, but the gym he had been linked with issued a statement saying he had been dismissed days earlier and was no longer authorised to represent them. Ángel also has 13,000 Instagram followers and posts about workout routines, nutrition plans, and fitness tips.
Hours before the attack, he shared a final Instagram Story video in which he spoke with intense religious fervour. He reportedly appeared manic, saying “Christ is providing houses and food” and urging people in Puebla and Cholula to come to his home and knock on the door.
Ángel remains in custody of the State Attorney General’s Office of Puebla. Prosecutors have opened a case for double qualified homicide and aggravated assault. He is undergoing psychiatric evaluation as investigators examine the role of his mental state and any possible relapse.
