Dramatic body cam footage shows the moment armed police arrested a gunman following a four-hour stand-off after he barricaded himself in a terrified stranger's home.
Topless Adam Wass is seen with his hands on his head on the driveway of the property as a GMP marksman shouts orders at him. He backs towards the firearms officer before getting on his knees, leaning forward and being handcuffed. Wass is then seen being read his rights having been apprehended.
Footage shows gun recovered
Another clip in the composite footage released by Greater Manchester Police shows a forensics officer retrieving the gun Wass earlier wielded as he twice shot at a woman in Salford. He is then seen in the back of a police van before being taken to a police station.
Wass, 36, the force said, put two innocent people through 'terrifying ordeals'.
Shooting on St Joseph's Drive
He attempted to shoot at a woman on St Joseph's Drive, Ordsall, on February 1 this year. The weapon misfired and no bullet emerged from the chamber. Wass pulled the trigger again as the woman ran and took cover behind a car. That time, a bullet was fired.
GMP said Wass then went into a nearby home and threatened a man inside, who fled unhurt. Armed officers were scrambled at around 8.15pm. Wass, who still had the gun, barricaded himself inside and refused to give himself up.
Arrest and conviction
Following a four-hour standoff, he emerged and was arrested. It was 'only by sheer luck' that neither of the two people involved suffered serious injury or worse, police said.
Detective Constable Alicia Wood-Potter, of Salford Challenger, said: "Wass is a dangerous individual who is now rightly behind bars. He put two innocent people through a terrifying ordeal and it is only by sheer luck that neither suffered serious injury or worse."
Wass, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm when prohibited; and possession of a prohibited firearm under the Firearms Act 1968.
