BMW deliberately torched in Johnstone as police appeal

A BMW car has been left in a wreck after being deliberately set alight in the early hours of Thursday in Renfrewshire. The scorched grey BMW 3 series is sat on Buchanan Street in Johnstone following the attack at around 3.10am.

Police Scotland attended with the fire extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS). Images taken from the scene later on Thursday morning show the front of the car burnt out with the remains of the engine still visible.

Child's car seat visible in wreck

A child's car seat can also be seen through the smashed windows of the wreck alongside some sort of pink fabric sitting across the back seat. Officers have taped off the scene around the vehicle as their inquiries into the blaze continue.

There were no reported injuries. Detective Constable Naomi Irving said: “This fire is being treated as deliberate and our enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have witnessed anything suspicious to contact police. In addition, anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”

Police appeal for information

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0326 of October 1, 2026. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The SFRS has also been contacted for comment. It comes amid a number of other blazes across Scotland.

Recently a luxury car was torched in another quiet Renfrewshire village. Residents in Kilbarchan were woken by loud bangs as a fire ripped through a black Range Rover just after midnight on Friday August 28.

Earlier that month in Blantyre a car was torched in a late-night attack at Ivy Place. Police were hunting two men dressed in black clothing wearing face coverings, seen pushing a bicycle in the area at the time.

In June a teen was rushed to hospital after a car was burnt out during brawl with weapons on a Glasgow street. Emergency crews, including armed officers, raced to the incident at Muirshield Crescent in Priesthill.

The motor was found to have been torched after it crashed into several other vehicles. A police van also caught fire after the blaze spread.
