Urgent Recall: Asbestos-Contaminated Doorstops Sold by The Original Factory Shop
Asbestos in Doorstops: Urgent Recall Issued by The Original Factory Shop

The Original Factory Shop, a high street retailer that entered administration earlier this year, has issued an urgent product recall for four novelty doorstops after discovering they contain asbestos. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) confirmed that the sand inside the doorstops may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos, posing a health risk even at low exposure levels.

Affected Products and Immediate Action Required

The recall covers four models: a highland cow, grey dog, brown dog, and elephant. Customers are urged to stop using them immediately and follow disposal instructions. The affected barcodes and article codes are as follows:

  • Highland Cow – Barcode: 5057722706128, Article Code: 30725676
  • Dog (Brown) – Barcode: Not provided, Article Code: 10552082
  • Dog (Grey) – Barcode: Not provided, Article Code: 10522327
  • Elephant – Barcode: Not provided, Article Code: 10502202

Safe Disposal Instructions

The OPSS advises owners to dispose of the doorstops carefully. If the product is undamaged, place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly, and store it out of children's reach. If damaged and sand is accessible, gather the sand using wet cloths to avoid dust, wear gloves and a mask, and double bag the sand, gloves, and cloths before sealing. Contact your local authority for guidance on safe asbestos disposal.
