A person has been arrested following two reports of kidnappings in the Welsh town of Treherbert within less than 24 hours. South Wales Police responded to separate incidents involving a 12-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy.
First Incident: Girl Reported Kidnapped
On Monday evening, officers were called to reports of a 12-year-old girl being kidnapped from an address in Treherbert. However, police later confirmed that the report was unfounded. A statement from South Wales Police said: 'This wasn’t the case and the girl is with her family.'
Second Incident: Boy Reported Kidnapped
On Tuesday afternoon, police received a second report, this time of a 12-year-old boy being kidnapped from the Treherbert area. Officers responded and the boy was found safe and returned to his family. An arrest has been made in connection with this case. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
Police Statement
A South Wales Police spokesperson said: 'South Wales Police was called last night to reports of a kidnap of a 12 year-old girl from an address in Treherbert, this wasn’t the case and the girl is with her family. We were called earlier this afternoon to reports of a 12-year-old boy being kidnapped from the Treherbert area, the boy is now back with his family. We have arrested someone in relation to this case, and they remain in custody whilst investigations are on-going.'
Community Reassured
Both children are safe, and police have not indicated any ongoing threat to the community. The investigation into the boy's reported kidnapping is active, with the arrested individual being questioned.
