A motorcyclist who died in a collision in Argyll has been named as Donald Smith. The 61-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene after a crash involving two bikes and a car on the A83 near Tarbet.
Crash details and response
Emergency services were called to the A83 at around 12:15pm on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Donald, from Strone Point, Drumnadrochit, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
A second male rider, aged 58, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with serious injuries. His current condition is unknown.
Family tribute
Donald's family have paid tribute, describing him as a "huge character" and a "top geezer". The statement reads: "It is with great sadness that a huge character and top geezer has been lost due to a motorcycle accident at Lochgilphead on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Donald Francis Smith, Strone Point, Drumnadrochit, aged 61 years."
They added: "Four years in Drum, he totally embraced Scotland. Beloved husband of Beverly, incredibly proud and loving father to Abigail and James, dear brother to Tony and Maria, beloved son, loved and respected by everyone that knew him."
Police statement
Police Scotland said: "Around 12.15pm on Sunday, 19 July, 2026, we received a report of a crash involving a car and two motorcycles on the A83 near Tarbert. Emergency services attended and one male rider, aged 61, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male rider, aged 58, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to what were described as serious injuries."
The road reopened around 8:35pm. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
