Big Brother star Aisleyne Horgan Wallace, 47, has blamed the heatwave after being attacked by an XL Bully dog, leaving her scarred for life. The former reality TV contestant, known for appearing in the seventh series of Channel 4's Big Brother, shared her ordeal on social media, revealing that the dog suddenly turned on her despite showing affection moments earlier.
Attack Details and Injuries
In a series of posts, Horgan Wallace described the incident: "The few mins before he bit me... Everyone knows I'm a dog mummy. I love dogs." She added that the dog "loved me, then for a split second for no reason he didn't." The attack resulted in deep bites, with Horgan Wallace stating, "You could see the bone." She was rushed to A&E for treatment and later posted a photo from the hospital, writing, "I've been bitten by an XL BULLY!!!!! You can see my f bone thank GOD for my girl."
Heatwave Blamed
Horgan Wallace attributed the attack to the ongoing heatwave, warning others about the dangers. In response to a follower who shared a tragic story of a family dog killing a child, she commented: "This is devastating. It's not always about the breed... I think this heat is really dangerous please take heed. I'm so lucky in this instance... I pray this family can heal." She emphasized that dogs, especially large breeds, can be unpredictable in extreme heat.
Safety Warnings and Legal Context
The star urged caution around big dogs, stating: "Thankful it wasn't my neck or face… Sad I'm scarred for life. Glad it wasn't a child and it was me… So conflicted. Dogs are pack animals they need you to be their leader. It makes them feel safe to know you are in control. If you let them do mad behaviour they will eventually execute that. Big dogs are so powerful… protect your kids it ain't a joke."
In the UK, owners of XL Bully dogs must have a valid Certificate of Exemption, a legal document permitting ownership of an otherwise prohibited breed under the Dangerous Dogs Act. These certificates were introduced after a ban on XL Bullies came into effect in England and Wales, requiring owners to comply with strict conditions such as muzzling and leashing in public.
Public Reaction and Aftermath
Horgan Wallace's posts garnered widespread attention, with many followers expressing support and sharing their own experiences with dog attacks. One follower recounted: "My friend's daughter was killed about 10 weeks ago by their loving family dog. A whippet. He got her neck and that was it. Wishing you a speedy recovery." The star responded with empathy, reinforcing her message about heat-related risks.
The incident has reignited debates about dog breed-specific legislation and the impact of weather on animal behavior. Horgan Wallace's case highlights the importance of vigilance, even with familiar pets, particularly during heatwaves.
