The A9 has been closed in both directions after a crash caused two cars to burst into flames near Moy. Dramatic footage shows huge flames and thick black smoke rising into the air.
Crash details and response
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.04pm on Saturday, September 26, after reports of a collision involving two vehicles. The incident occurred near a section of the A9 currently being upgraded as part of the Dualling Programme.
Both cars caught fire following the crash. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed three appliances remain at the scene. The blaze has since been extinguished, but emergency crews are still in attendance and recovery of the vehicles is being arranged.
Road closure and diversion
A Police Scotland spokesperson said the A9 between Moy and Tomatin remains closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident. A diversion route is in place, but members of the public have been urged to avoid the area at this time.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We are still in attendance following reports of two cars on fire on the A9 at Moy. We received a call at 14.04 and three appliances are there at the moment.”
