A harrowing case of matricide that shocked Texas in 2014 has resurfaced, detailing the brutal murder of a mother by her teenage son and his subsequent chilling lack of remorse.
In the family apartment, 18-year-old Kevin Jazrael Davis attacked and killed his 50-year-old mother, Kimberly Hill, after a conversation about his dark thoughts turned deadly.
The Fatal Confrontation and a Hammer Attack
Davis had confessed to his mother that he struggled with disturbing ideas and hated people, even contemplating suicide. Kimberly Hill's response, that she could not stop him if he chose to end his life, was interpreted by her son as contempt. This ignited a violent rage within him.
According to his later police confession, Davis ambushed his mother from behind as she sat on their living room sofa, trying to strangle her with a cord. When she began to scream, he seized a hammer.
In a frenzied assault, Davis bludgeoned his mother's skull more than twenty times. Not satisfied, he then fetched a knife. He later told investigators he used it to stir his mother's brain, stating he wanted to ensure she was dead. He repeated the act with his hand, describing the gruesome texture as feeling "like putty".
Chilling Confessions and a Lack of Remorse
After the murder, Davis violated his mother's corpse before attempting to flee. He ultimately turned himself in, stopping at a nearby house to ask someone to call the police.
His statements during the extensive police interrogation were profoundly disturbing. When asked if this was his "first time," Davis replied, "I guess I lost my virginity to a dead corpse."
Questioned about remorse for killing his mother, footage shows Davis saying, "in a way, yes. But I wouldn't take back what I did." He added, "It's strange, really. I did love her. She's been the best mother."
He also confessed to previously killing the family cat by strangulation and drowning, remarking that "family looks past that kind of stuff."
Courtroom Drama and a Life Sentence
The courtroom proceedings offered no solace. As his sister, Desirae, gave a victim impact statement declaring, "You took the only person who had your back. Now you are all alone," Davis reportedly sighed casually and remained unmoved.
Throughout the trial, he made headlines for grinning while hearing evidence and gesturing at witnesses. He described himself as "perverted, terrible and disgusting" but maintained he was entirely rational during the crime.
Prosecutors offered a plea deal for a 60-year prison term, which Davis, through his solicitor James Lawrence, refused. He subsequently admitted to second-degree murder and was given a life sentence.
