A teenage pupil at Eton College has been found dead in an incident described by police as unexplained but non-suspicious. Thames Valley Police confirmed they are preparing a file for the coroner after the boy was discovered on Friday morning.
The pupil, who has not been named, was found as the school day began. His family have been informed and are being supported by authorities. The school, which charges fees of around £63,000 a year, said in a statement: 'It is with the greatest sadness that Eton College can confirm one of our boys has died while at school.'
Eton added that its priority is to support the family and respect their privacy, as well as to support the boy's friends and the wider school community. The all-boys' school has more than 1,300 pupils aged 13 to 18, who live in 25 boarding houses.
It is not yet known where the boy was found on the estate. A police spokeswoman said: 'We would ask that their privacy is respected at what is an extremely difficult time for them.' The cause of death remains undetermined pending further investigation.
