Emmerdale fans were left horrified after a disturbing weekend episode featuring Dr Caitlin Todd's sinister blackmail plot against Charity Dingle. The evil doctor had been demanding £100,000 from Charity over the true parentage of Leyla Sugden. After Charity could only pay £30,000, Dr Todd threatened to expose the secret at Sarah Sugden's 21st birthday party.
In devastating scenes, a drunk Charity told Dr Todd: "I have not got a bean left to give... you've bled me dry." She revealed she had "begged, borrowed and stolen" to meet the demands. The plot took a dark turn when Dr Todd locked the door and sexually assaulted an intoxicated Charity. Charity woke up in horror asking "What are you doing?" before Todd fled.
Viewers flocked to social media expressing their distress, with one posting: "Tonight's episode has left me feeling sick to my stomach." Many praised the performances despite the harrowing content. Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, said: "This has been one of the most demanding storylines I've had to navigate as Charity." She hopes it will help others understand trauma.
