A body has been discovered in the search for a missing 76-year-old man in Inverness-shire. The discovery was made on Sunday near to the River Beauly, and the man's family have been informed.
Search for Alasdair Fergusson
Alasdair Fergusson was reported missing from the Garden Place area of the village in the early hours of Sunday, at around 1.30am. His disappearance was described as being "very out of character".
Police Scotland has confirmed that a body has been found in connection with the search, and the family of Mr Fergusson have been made aware of the tragic discovery.
Police statement
A spokesperson said: "On Sunday, 4 October, 2026, the body of a man was found near to the River Beauly.
"Formal identification is yet to take place, however the family of 76-year-old Alasdair Fergusson, who was reported missing earlier today, have been made aware.
"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
