A body has been found in the River Tyne during the search for a 20-year-old man who disappeared after asking for directions near Newcastle.
The man, named only as 'John' by police, was from Gateshead and was reported missing on September 2 after he was last seen in Newcastle in the early hours of the morning.
Police investigation and CCTV review
Northumbria Police carried out extensive enquiries to locate John, including a review of local CCTV and public appeals.
Two people seen on CCTV speaking to John on Tower Street in Newcastle City Centre came forward to assist police with their enquiries. They confirmed that at around 3am on September 2, John had asked them for directions before heading towards City Road.
Body recovered from the river
A body matching John's description was pulled from the River Tyne near Newcastle Quayside shortly after 11am on Wednesday, September 9.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, but John's next of kin have been notified and are being supported by officers.

Detective Inspector Nick Went, of the Force's Missing Investigation Team, said: "This is an extremely sad development, and our thoughts are with John's family and friends.
"I would like to thank all of the officers involved in our investigation to locate John, along with everyone who shared our appeals and contacted us with information. It is much appreciated.
"We would continue to ask that people respect the family's privacy at this tragic time. As is standard practice, a report into John's death will now be prepared for the coroner."
