Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is concerned that he is not receiving adequate security following an alleged incident near his residence in Sandringham. The disgraced former prince believes he is 'more at risk' than other members of the royal family, especially after losing his taxpayer-funded protection when his titles were removed.
Security Concerns and Threats
Andrew feels that there are 'fixated individuals' targeting him, with his association with Jeffrey Epstein and his tenure as UK trade envoy being factors that may have increased his risk, according to The Telegraph. He is now requesting taxpayer-funded protection after a recent alleged altercation near his Norfolk home.
Incident Details
Alex Jenkinson, 39, has been charged with threatening Andrew near his home at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate. He is scheduled for trial on July 29 after receiving an interim stalking prevention order (SPO) on Thursday. Jenkinson was warned that he could face up to five years in prison if he violates the conditions of his movement restrictions.
A source indicated that while Andrew was 'reassured' by the hearing's outcome, the incident demonstrates that royals cannot be 'uninvented'. The source noted that although the former duke is no longer a working royal, he faces the same security risks as active members.
Longstanding Security Requests
Andrew has sought enhanced security 'for years', but it is unlikely that taxpayers will cover the cost given his tarnished reputation. Officers arrested Jenkinson after he reportedly wore a black balaclava and camouflage clothing while chasing Andrew.
Weapons and Searches
Jenkinson was allegedly found with a 'palm-sized' rock in his pocket and a wooden-handled axe in his car. The court heard that his phone's browser history included searches related to the Princess of Wales and her children, Charlotte and Louis, as well as weapons and killing methods.
Last year, the Duke of Sussex lost a legal battle against the Home Office over his own security arrangements. He argued that he deserved police protection due to his birth status and is awaiting a decision from the Royal and VIP Executive Committee after a risk assessment.
