Tragic Death of Three-Year-Old Boy After Midnight Disappearance
A three-year-old boy has tragically died after wandering from his family home in the middle of the night and being discovered hours later in a river. The incident occurred in New London, Wisconsin, where the toddler, who has not been publicly identified, left the residence in the early hours of Monday, April 13.
Timeline of the Disappearance and Discovery
The child was last seen near a local school at approximately midnight. His father had last checked on him around that time. It is believed the young boy managed to wander around four blocks from home before he was reported missing just before 5:00 AM local time.
An extensive search was launched, involving local residents who conducted impromptu searches upon hearing the news. The New London Police Department issued an Amber Alert, describing the boy as three feet tall with brown hair and brown eyes, last seen wearing an orange Chicago Bears shirt and a diaper.
Community and Police Response
John Faucher, a local store owner, reported seeing a significant police presence in the area. "We saw drones. We saw lots of county squads, city squads," he told WSAW, a local network. "I think we had a lot of inter-agency support from other communities here in town. Being right here, so close to the middle school, there was a lot of that presence right here, right away in the morning. Before it even got light out, there were teams out looking."
Many residents took to the police department's Facebook page to spread awareness about the missing boy, with some claiming to have participated in the search efforts during the early morning hours.
Discovery and Medical Confirmation
The boy was located in a river at about 7:17 AM local time on the same day. He was transported to a medical centre, where doctors confirmed he had died. Police stated it was not known how long the boy had been in the water. At around 11:30 AM local time, authorities updated the public to confirm the boy's death.
In an initial social media post, the New London Police Department announced: "3 YEAR OLD BOY MISSING FROM 1000 BLOCK OF W BEACON AVE NEW LONDON, 3 FT TALL, BROWN HAIR, BROWN EYES, LAST SEEN WEARING ORANGE CHICAGO BEARS SHIRT AND DIAPER, LAST SEEN NEAR MIDDLE SCHOOL NEAR MIDNIGHT." A later update simply read: "He has been located!! Thank you everyone for sharing."
Investigation and Uncertainties
ABC2 reported that the child was found upstream, and it remains unclear where exactly he entered the river. It is possible he went into the water somewhere near his home and was moved by the current. The police did not name the specific school where the child was last seen in their latest update.
This heartbreaking incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the dangers young children can face and the swift response of both authorities and residents in times of crisis.
