Woman, 92, named after Inverness lorry death

A 92-year-old woman who died after allegedly being struck by a lorry in Inverness city centre has been named as Mary Jane Goodwin.

Emergency services were called to Academy Street, near the railway station, at around 9.50am on Thursday, October 29. Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene, and her next of kin have been informed.

Police Appeal for Information

Sergeant Calum MacAulay, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our sympathies remain with the family and friends of Mrs Goodwin, who have requested that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances, and we are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to please come forward.”

Road Closure and Scene

Academy Street was closed between Crown Road and Chapel Street for seven hours while officers carried out enquiries. The road reopened at 5pm. Images from the scene showed fire crews and paramedics in attendance, with an articulated lorry visible behind the police cordon.

Members of the public were asked to avoid the area, though train services ran as normal and the station was unaffected by the closures.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland, quoting reference 0879 of Thursday, October 29, 2026.
