Tributes to Arran Callander, 20, killed in Storm Boelo crash

A 20-year-old man who died in a fatal collision in Bathgate during Storm Boelo has been named as Arran Callander. He was driving a white BMW that crashed into a blue Citroen Saxo and a blue Peugeot 208 on the B708 Lower Bathville road at around 12.15pm on Sunday, October 25.

Callander was pronounced dead at the scene, alongside the 84-year-old male driver of the Peugeot. The passenger of the BMW, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment, while the occupants of the Citroen, a 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Family and Friends Pay Tribute

Callander's sister, Angela, led the tributes, describing him as "one of a kind". She said: "You will be so missed by so many. It's not sunk in. I want to see you again. It's like I'm dreaming. Thinking of everyone affected by the crash, Love you so much, forever and always. Fly high."

Close friend Amelie Johansen wrote: "I'm never going to get my head around this. My longest friend. The memories we've shared along with all the laughs we've had will always be at the front of my mind. I'll never forget your one liners. You had everyone laughing. You really were one of a kind, Arran. None of this feels real and I don't think it ever will. The grief that has come with this is unbearable. Until we meet again, Arran. I love you loads."

Collision Investigation Underway

The pensioner who also lost their life in the collision is yet to be formally identified. The tragedy occurred while an amber weather warning for Storm Boelo remained in force until Sunday evening across much of Scotland.

Photographs taken at the scene show a substantial cordon erected as officers examine the crash site. The road was shut off to facilitate collision investigation work, with police urging anybody with relevant information to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: "Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the two men who have died, and everyone affected by this incident. Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to please contact us. In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 1770 of October 25, 2026.
