An 18-year-old Oklahoma teenager has died in a devastating accident after she sat in a moving car's windowsill as it traveled along a busy interstate late at night, according to police reports. Lani Hicks, from Ardmore, was riding in a vehicle with four other individuals on Saturday around 11:30 pm along Interstate 35 when she got up and positioned herself in the front passenger window.

Troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol stated that the car, driven by 19-year-old Mylie Campbell, was speeding down the roadway while Hicks sat with part of her body outside the vehicle near mile marker 50. In a sudden and tragic turn, Hicks fell out of the window and onto the busy highway, where she was fatally struck by several other vehicles. Authorities confirmed that just one of the other passengers sustained injuries, and notably, none of the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.

A spokesperson for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol informed the Daily Mail that the agency currently has no reason to believe criminal charges will be filed in connection with Hicks' death. Furthermore, there is no evidence to suggest that drugs or alcohol played a role in this heartbreaking event, which they described as appearing to be a devastating accident. The spokesperson added, "Our hearts go out to Lani’s family during this incredibly difficult time, and they remain in our thoughts and prayers as this investigation concludes." This tragic event echoes a similar incident that occurred in August 2022, leading to the death of 18-year-old Lynette Trinkle. Trinkle was traveling in a car with friends after being picked up from a party in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, around 2:30 am when she attempted to ride from the windowsill after seeing another vehicle full of her friends do the same. As she did so, the teen lost her balance and fell out, suffering severe head trauma and road rash. Despite life-saving efforts, she died from her injuries. According to the medical examiner, the vehicle was traveling about 40 to 50 mph in a 35 mph zone, and the driver denied being under the influence.
