The Office star Lucy Davis has announced she has been diagnosed with incurable breast cancer. The 53-year-old, who played Dawn Tinsley in the beloved British sitcom, shared the news in an Instagram post, revealing she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer 18 months ago.
Davis said the cancer was "incurable" and that it was "too late" for chemotherapy. She added: "I'm trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can."

On Wednesday's (August 12) episode of Good Morning Britain, Ashna Hurynag said: "Actress Lucy Davis has revealed that she has incurable stage 4 breast cancer. The star who played receptionist Dawn Tinsley in the hit sitcom, The Office, announced the diagnosis in an Instagram post that says she is at peace with whatever comes next," reports the Mirror.
In a pre-recorded clip, Rosie Dowsing shared: "British comedy fans know her as Dawn from The Office. Now, Lucy Davis says it's humour getting her through her darkest days." A video of Lucy ringing a bell after her treatment was then played, as Rosie went on: "She used this post on Instagram to reveal she has stage 4 breast cancer, which has spread to her bones."
The 53-year-old says it's too late for chemo. Her cancer is incurable, and she's warned others not to ignore spots and lumps. On the post, she has received thousands of messages, including from co-star Ricky Gervais.
Career and support
The reporter continued: "After starring in The Office, Davis had roles in Shaun of the Dead, Wonderwoman, and the Netflix series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She says acting is one of the biggest joys of her life. The Birmingham-born actress says she wants to live her remaining days with as much fan as possible, much like the energy she brought to our screens."
Ranvir Singh then paid tribute to the actress, saying that her news was "a terrible shock". She added that Lucy's attitude was "remarkable", noting how "important" it was when people "bravely come out and talk about" cancer, like Sir Chris Hoy.
Ranvir concluded by saying that she hopes Lucy goes out to enjoy tonight's solar eclipse, as it is a "once in a generation experience".
Flood of messages
Lucy has been flooded with support on social media, with Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman writing: "Lucy [heart emoji]. What a wise & funny f**ker you are. Forever admiring you from afar. Hope you're receiving all this love coming your way xxx."
American Horror Story's Sarah Paulson added: "Sending you love love love [three heart emojis]. You are and always have been full of magic."
Former GMB star Piers Morgan similarly shared: "Lucy, this is such devastating news. I'm so sorry. Your courage in talking about this so honestly says everything about you. Sending you and your family all my love and support."
