Thames Valley Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a man in his 60s died following a collision near Lidl in Calcot, Reading. The incident occurred at approximately 6.30am on Tuesday, when the man was crossing the road and was believed to have been struck by at least one vehicle.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man died at the scene. The road was closed for investigations but has since reopened. A 41-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation.
Investigating officer Sergeant Matt Cadmore from the Roads Policing Unit said: “We now believe the man was crossing the road near to the Lidl at 6.30am when he was struck by a vehicle. It is possible that more than one vehicle may have been involved, but the driver or drivers involved may not have been aware of this, as the incident occurred in hours of darkness.”
Sergeant Cadmore urged anyone who witnessed the incident or saw a man crossing the road at that time to come forward. “My thoughts remain with the family of the man who has died, who are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers at this extremely distressing time,” he added.
