Two people have been killed and nine others treated for smoke inhalation following a fire at a property in Magaluf, a popular tourist destination for British visitors on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
Details of the Incident
The fire broke out around 5am local time on the third floor of a residential building in the Magaluf area, according to a statement from Spain's Civil Guard. Residents attempted to extinguish the flames themselves but were unsuccessful, and the fire spread to other parts of the building.
More than 12 people were evacuated from the property, and smoke from the blaze was visible for miles. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames approximately two hours later.
Casualties and Response
A Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed that two people died in the fire, and nine others required medical treatment for smoke inhalation. The nationalities of the victims have not yet been released.
Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and medical teams, responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
