M67 closed all day after police incident, drivers warned

The M67 is closed in both directions between junctions three at Hyde and four at Hattersley following a police incident. National Highways warns the motorway is likely to remain shut all day.

Ongoing police incident

Officers are at the scene on the Tameside motorway this morning (August 4). The motorway remains closed in both directions between junctions three and four. National Highways states the motorway is expected to stay shut all day 'due to the nature of the incident'.

A GMP Tameside spokesperson said: "Please be aware that officers are dealing with an ongoing incident on the M67. While investigations continue, the M67 will be closed in both directions for majority of the day. Please find an alternate route and we are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. Thank you for your cooperation."

Second closure on A628

Motorists are also facing a second major road closure in the vicinity this morning. The A628 Woodhead Pass has been shut in both directions between Hollingworth and the A616 Flouch roundabout, in South Yorkshire, following a 'serious road traffic collision', according to National Highways.

Police remain at the scene. A National Highways spokesperson said: "The A628 remains closed in both directions near Tintwistle in Derbyshire following a serious collision."

Derbyshire Police remain at the scene carrying out collision investigations, and the road is expected to remain closed throughout the night. "Once the police investigation has concluded, vehicle recovery will take place before National Highways contractors begin carriageway clean-up operations and any necessary repairs to damaged infrastructure."

Motorists are being diverted onto the A57 or M62 between Greater Manchester and Yorkshire.
