A serious crash on the M11 in Essex has caused major delays near Stansted Airport, with lane closures expected to remain in place for most of the day.
National Highways confirmed that lane 2 of 2 is closed in both directions between Junction 8 for Stansted Airport and Junction 9 for Newmarket following the collision, which was first reported at 8.11am. Emergency barrier repairs are ongoing at the scene.
Drivers faced long delays and heavy congestion in both directions, with delays of up to 45 minutes reported. At one point, there were around 15 miles of slow or stationary traffic on the M11, according to National Highways.
Google Traffic later indicated that congestion has cleared, but lane closures remain in place for barrier repairs. Motorists are advised to expect residual delays and to plan alternative routes where possible.
