Four men have died after a car hit a lamppost in Liverpool. The crash happened on Liverpool Road in Huyton. The men were all in their 20s.
Details of the crash
Police said a black Seat Cupra heading from Liverpool towards Knowsley came off the road and collided with a lamppost. Two men aged 23, another aged 24 and a fourth aged 26 were declared dead at the scene shortly before 2am.
A fifth passenger, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a stable condition. Several roads remain closed, including Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road. Police said they are likely to remain closed all weekend.
Police appeal
Superintendent Paul Holden said: 'First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning.' He added that their families are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.
Holden appealed for anyone who saw the crash or has doorbell footage to contact police. A temporary flight restriction zone for drones is also in place above the area.
