A night of celebration turned to tragedy when five young friends were killed in a devastating two-vehicle collision near Dundalk on Saturday night. The group, all in their early twenties, were on their way to enjoy an evening out when the incident occurred just after 9pm.

Victims Identified in Heartbreaking Collision

The five young people who lost their lives have been named as Chloe McGee, 23, from Carrickmacross, Chloe Hipson, 21, Shay Duffy, 21, Alan McCluskey, 23, and Dylan Commins, 23. They were travelling in a Volkswagen Golf that collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser on a road near Dundalk.

Gardai confirmed that a sixth person, also in his twenties who was travelling in the Golf, survived the crash and is currently receiving treatment in hospital for injuries described as non-life threatening.

Dream Job Celebration Cut Short

In a particularly heartbreaking detail, it has emerged that Chloe McGee had been celebrating securing her dream job as a permanent teacher at the Ó Fiaich Institute of Further Education in Dundalk.

Pádraig McGovern, principal of the Ó Fiaich Institute, expressed the profound sadness felt by the college community. He revealed that McGee had been celebrating this significant career milestone, describing the permanent position as a "big thing" for the young educator.

The collision occurred as the group journeyed towards Dundalk for what should have been a joyful night out, marking both the weekend and Chloe's professional achievement.
