Tragedy Strikes as Five Young Lives Lost in County Louth
A devastating road traffic collision in County Louth has claimed the lives of five young adults, casting a pall of grief across Ireland. The incident occurred on the L3168 at Gibstown, just outside Dundalk, on Saturday evening at approximately 9pm.
Irish police confirmed that the crash involved two vehicles: a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Landcruiser. The five deceased, three men and two women all in their early 20s, were all occupants of the Volkswagen Golf. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency Response and Ongoing Investigation
A major incident response was swiftly initiated by An Garda Siochana, supported by Dundalk Fire Brigade, HSE paramedics, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. Superintendent Charlie Armstrong, speaking near the scene, praised the first responders for their exemplary professionalism and the care shown to the deceased under adverse weather conditions.
Three other individuals were transported to hospital for treatment. A man in his 20s from the Volkswagen and a man and woman from the Toyota Landcruiser are currently fighting for their lives. Family liaison officers have been appointed to support all the affected families.
The scene on the L3168 remains closed as a technical and forensic examination is carried out by specialist Garda collision investigators. Post-mortem examinations are also scheduled to take place.

Ireland's deputy premier, Simon Harris, expressed the nation's collective sorrow, stating that a 'veil of deep sadness and shock' had fallen over the country. He extended his thoughts to the families and friends of the victims and paid tribute to the emergency services for their work in 'the most harrowing of situations.'
Superintendent Armstrong highlighted the profound impact this tragedy will have on communities in Carrickmacross, Dromconrath, and in Scotland. He issued a direct appeal for information, urging anyone who was on the L3168 between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025, or anyone with relevant camera footage, to contact the investigation team at Dundalk Garda Station on 042 9388400.
