Five young people have lost their lives in a devastating two-car collision in County Louth on Saturday night. The incident, which occurred just outside Dundalk, has left the local community in profound shock.

Details of the Collision

According to Superintendent Charlie Armstrong from Dundalk Garda station, the serious road traffic collision happened on the L3168 road at approximately 9 pm on Saturday evening. The crash involved a Volkswagen Golf and a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Tragically, all five fatalities were occupants of the Volkswagen Golf. The deceased have been identified as three men and two women, all in their early 20s. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement, Superintendent Armstrong confirmed, "Five occupants of the Volkswagen Golf, three males and two females all in their early 20s, were deceased at the scene."

Injured Survivors Receiving Treatment

One male occupant of the Volkswagen Golf, also in his 20s, was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The two occupants of the Toyota Land Cruiser, a man and a woman, were also taken to the same hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Gardaí have launched a full investigation into all the circumstances surrounding this fatal road traffic collision. The community is now mourning the tragic loss of five young lives in this horrific car accident.
