Six fire engines were called to a high-rise apartment block near Manchester city centre after a fire broke out on a balcony. The incident occurred at Jefferson Place, in the Green Quarter, at around 2.30am on August 12.
Fire crews cut away astro turf
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) reported that the fire involved astro turf on the balcony, which firefighters had to cut away at the scene. Crews spent approximately an hour dealing with the incident.
Statement from GMFRS
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 2.30am this morning (Wednesday, August 12), six fire engines from Manchester Central, Salford Central, Broughton, Philips Park and Gorton fire station were called to reports of a building fire involving a flat on Fernie Street, Manchester. Crews arrived quickly at the scene.
“The fire involved a small amount of astro turf on the balcony of one of the flats. Firefighters worked to make the building safe by cutting away the balcony and removing the astro turf. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour.”
