Family 'Completely Devastated' After Tragic Car Park Death

A loving great-grandmother has tragically died after being struck by a van in a Morrisons supermarket car park in Northumberland. Alicia Ternant, 69, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following the horrific collision last Wednesday afternoon but passed away from her injuries the following day, Thursday, November 6.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Alnwick at around 1.45pm after reports that a female pedestrian had been knocked down by a white Mercedes Sprinter van. The 'loving' mother and grandmother had reportedly travelled to the supermarket in her blue Suzuki Swift car, which was parked in a disabled bay. She was using a walking stick at the time of the incident.

Northumbria Police confirmed that the driver of the van remained at the scene and is supporting officers with their ongoing investigation. The force is now renewing its appeal for witnesses and any available footage.

A Life Lived to the Full

In an emotional statement, Alicia's heartbroken family described their profound loss. They said: 'Alicia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived life to the full and was very active – often enjoying holidays and getting out and about with her family and friends.'

The family's statement continued, 'Losing Alicia has been completely unexpected and, as a family, we are completely devastated she is no longer with us. We are still trying to come to terms with our loss and would ask that we're given privacy to grieve at this difficult time.' Specially-trained Family Liaison Officers are supporting them.

Sergeant Greg Huntley of Northumbria Police expressed his sympathies, stating: 'This is a tragic update to share, and I'd like to extend my deepest sympathies to Alicia's loved ones while they navigate their loss.' He emphasised that the area was believed to be busy at the time and urged anyone with information, CCTV, or dashcam footage to contact police, quoting reference NP-20251029-0509.
