Shocking dashcam footage has revealed the terrifying moment a reckless driver led police on a high-speed chase through residential streets before deliberately ramming into a patrol car.
Connor Kirkham, 23, embarked on a dangerous driving spree through Tameside, Greater Manchester, reaching speeds of up to 100mph in 30mph zones while pursued by multiple police vehicles.
The Reckless Pursuit
The dramatic video evidence shows Kirkham's silver Ford Fiesta weaving through traffic and narrowly missing other vehicles and pedestrians during the eight-minute pursuit. At one point, the fugitive driver mounted a pavement to overtake queuing cars, putting countless lives at risk.
"The manner of driving was nothing short of horrific," stated prosecutors during the Manchester Crown Court hearing. "He showed complete disregard for the safety of other road users and members of the public."
The Deliberate Collision
The chase reached its dramatic climax when Kirkham performed a U-turn and accelerated directly toward an approaching police car. The deliberate head-on collision left the police vehicle with significant damage, though fortunately the officer escaped serious injury.
Following the impact, Kirkham attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers in the Denton area.
Justice Served
Judge Nicholas Dean KC delivered a stern message during sentencing, stating: "This was a shocking piece of driving which could easily have resulted in someone being killed or seriously injured."
Kirkham received an 18-month prison sentence and was banned from driving for three years and nine months. He must also pass an extended driving test before returning to the roads.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of dangerous driving and the vital role dashcam evidence plays in bringing offenders to justice.
