Council teams probe sinkhole on Stirlingshire road

Specialist teams are on the scene in Bridge of Allan after images of a 'sinkhole' on a local street emerged online. The images were circulated on a community page for the town on Thursday evening, with some residents urging people to get in touch with council road chiefs over the issue.

Investigation underway

Updated imagery from this morning has shown the sinkhole on Keir Street closed off by cones, with a spokesman for the authority confirming a probe was underway. The Stirling Council spokesman said: "We can confirm that a team is on site to investigate the sinkhole to allow us to determine next steps to remedy the issue."

Context of roadworks

The sinkhole comes at a busy time for the town's roads as local anger continues to build over a 14-month road closure set to affect Cornton Road as a new flood prevention scheme begins work. The traffic order outlines an alternative route for vehicles, directing them to Fountain Road, Henderson Street, Airthrey Road, Causewayhead Road before returning back on to Cornton Road. For goods vehicles and HGVs, there is a longer diversion via Henderson Street, Airthrey Road, the A907, A91, A905, Kerse Road and Burghmuir Road.
