Adelaide Woman Dies Days After Being Pinned by Her Own Reversing Car
A 60-year-old woman from Adelaide has tragically died days after being struck and pinned by her own car in a quiet suburban street. The incident occurred in Torrens Park, casting a shadow over the typically peaceful neighbourhood.
Details of the Tragic Accident
Just after 10:30am last Sunday, emergency services rushed to Eli Street in Torrens Park following reports that a woman had been hit by a vehicle. According to police, the woman, a resident of Pasadena, had just completed a delivery and was attempting to enter the front passenger seat when her car unexpectedly rolled backwards.
The vehicle trapped her underneath, causing severe injuries. An elderly passenger, believed to be her mother, was inside the car at the time and was unharmed. The woman was immediately transported to hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday.
Community Shock and Road Safety Concerns
Neighbours expressed profound shock at the accident in the usually serene cul-de-sac. "I've never heard so many sirens going," neighbour Felix Tan told local media, highlighting the disruption to the quiet area.
This fatality marks the 27th life lost on South Australian roads so far in 2026, raising urgent questions about vehicle safety and road awareness. Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the car rolling backwards.
Separate Serious Incident Involving a Cyclist
In a separate but equally concerning event, a 72-year-old cyclist from Gilberton sustained serious injuries after colliding with a truck in Adelaide's north on Friday. The accident occurred at Walkleys Road in Walkley Heights at 10:30am.
The cyclist was rushed to hospital, while the truck driver, a 39-year-old man from the Murray Mallee region, is cooperating fully with police inquiries. Authorities have appealed to the public for any footage or witness accounts of this incident.
Appeal for Information
Police are urging anyone with information about either accident to come forward. Specifically, they have asked witnesses or those with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 to assist with their investigations.
These back-to-back incidents underscore the critical importance of road safety vigilance, whether as a driver, pedestrian, or cyclist, in preventing further tragedies on South Australia's roads.
