The A1(M) northbound is closed in County Durham after a collision, causing lengthy traffic delays on the major North East route. The closure runs from J63 A167 Chester-Le-Street to J64 A195 Western Highway.
Police on scene and drivers urged to avoid area
Durham Constabulary is at the scene and drivers are being urged to avoid the area. The crash is understood to have happened shortly before 3pm on Thursday.
A statement from the force said: "We are currently dealing with a collision on the A1(M) at Chester-le-Street. The road is closed northbound between junction 63 and 64.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route. The road is expected to be closed for some time. Thank you for your patience."
