A 99-year-old woman is accused of critically injuring an 80-year-old cyclist in a hit-and-run incident in Helmetta, New Jersey, over the weekend, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:36 p.m. on Saturday on Main Street in Helmetta, a small borough about 41 miles southwest of New York City. Police found the cyclist with serious bodily injuries. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
The driver fled the scene but was quickly located by police in Spotswood, about two miles away. Main Street was temporarily closed for investigation.
The Jamesburg Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating. It is unclear if charges have been filed. Authorities have not released the names of those involved.
