A tragic late-night incident in Oxford has claimed the life of an 80-year-old man, with police arresting a motorist for driving without a valid licence or insurance.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Emergency services were called to the A4142 Eastern Bypass Road in Oxford at approximately 2am on Sunday. The collision involved two vehicles – a Ford Fiesta and a Hyundai Ioniq – and the elderly pedestrian.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The road was closed between Risinghurst and Horspath Driftway for several hours while investigators examined the area.
Arrest and Police Investigation
Thames Valley Police subsequently arrested a 28-year-old man from Dunstable, Bedfordshire. He was detained on suspicion of causing death by driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Sergeant Oliver Cahill-Smith, the investigating officer, stated: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the pedestrian who died in this collision." He urged anyone with information to come forward immediately.
