Woman Admits to Stealing Thousands in Designer Goods from Homes Near Glasgow
A 62-year-old woman has confessed to stealing thousands of pounds worth of high-end designer handbags and valuable jewellery from upscale residences in towns surrounding Glasgow. Roseann Pelosi, who describes herself online as operating house cleaning and window cleaning businesses, carried out a series of thefts targeting luxurious items from homes in Lanarkshire.
Details of the Thefts and Stolen Items
Pelosi's criminal activities spanned from March 2023 to October 2024, during which she raided multiple properties. In Bothwell, located approximately eight miles south-east of Glasgow, she stole a cream Gucci handbag and a matching silver Gucci necklace from one residence. From another house in the same area, she took a highly sought-after Hermes handbag, a Gucci sweater, an additional black Gucci handbag, and a bottle of perfume.
Moving to Coatbridge, about six miles north of Bothwell, Pelosi targeted two more homes. From one, she stole a three-stone diamond engagement ring, and from another, she pilfered a nine-stone diamond engagement ring. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated to be in the thousands, with Gucci bags retailing for up to £2,390 and Hermes bags potentially reaching five-figure sums.
Legal Proceedings and Court Appearance
Police investigated the thefts and subsequently identified and arrested Pelosi as the perpetrator. Initially facing 12 charges of theft, she appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court where prosecutors accepted not guilty pleas or dropped four counts. These included allegations of taking a pair of earrings and a Gucci belt from the Bothwell property, as well as £100 in cash and a black Biba handbag from one of the Coatbridge homes.
Ultimately, Pelosi pleaded guilty to eight counts of theft. Her defence lawyer, Niamh Rankin, informed the court that Pelosi is currently not working and receives disability allowance. Sheriff Shirley McKenna has deferred sentencing to allow for reports, with Pelosi ordered to appear at a later hearing where prosecutors will provide a full account of her crimes.
This case highlights a series of brazen thefts targeting affluent households, with the accused exploiting her purported cleaning business connections to access these properties. The deferred sentence indicates the court is considering the full impact of her actions before determining an appropriate punishment.
