Police are investigating after a truck was rammed into a Co-op store in Polbeth, West Lothian, in an attempted theft of an ATM. The incident happened on Polbeth Road at around 2am on Sunday, 27 September.
It does not appear any money was stolen, but officers are continuing their enquiries. Images show the damage caused to the building, with a massive hole visible where the vehicle was driven into the wall.
Damage and closure
The green truck remains in the car park, and bollards at the ATM have been dented. Police have taped off the area. Locals speculated online that the truck had been stolen from a nearby building site.
The Co-op shop is closed until at least the end of today while the building is secured and repaired.
Police appeal
Police Scotland has appealed for anyone with information to come forward. A spokesperson said: “Enquiries are continuing into the attempted theft of an ATM from shop on Polbeth Road, Polbeth, West Lothian, around 2am on Sunday, 27 September, 2026.”
“Anyone with information should contact 101, quoting incident number 0393 of 27 September.”
