From there, they used a sledgehammer to smash through the connecting wall, creating a hole large enough to enter DOWE Collectibles. Video obtained by The Independent and first reported by local outlet KTLA shows one suspect using the sledgehammer to break into glass cases mounted on the walls that were filled with Pokémon cards. Another suspect can be seen hastily grabbing the cards and placing them into a garbage bag. The store's glass counters also appeared to be raided during the brief but efficient operation.
Store owner Duy Pham told KTLA that his phone alerted him to the break-in, prompting him to immediately contact law enforcement. "I clicked on the footage and saw guys coming through the hole," Pham recounted. "My heart was pounding." He emphasized that the thieves "were here for the cards," indicating they had targeted the Pokémon collection specifically.
