In a shocking and unusual crime, burglars used a vehicle to smash their way into a Los Angeles barber shop during the early hours of Thanksgiving, making off with thousands in equipment and the owner's beloved, expensive cat.
A Bizarre and Brazen Break-In
The incident occurred at the LA Fresh Cuts barber shop in Los Angeles. Surveillance footage captured the moment a Toyota pickup truck was rammed into the premises, allowing three thieves to enter. The burglars proceeded to steal a significant haul of barbering equipment, with the total value estimated to be in the thousands of dollars.
The Targeted Theft of a Prized Pet
However, the theft took an even more peculiar turn. The criminals were then seen on camera loading a cage into the back of their truck. Inside that cage was Simba, a $2,000 Savannah cat belonging to the shop's owner, Joe Gomez. The shop later stated on social media that the intruders appeared to have specifically intended to "steal the cat."
In a heartfelt plea, the shop's statement emphasised the emotional loss over the material one: "We just want our cat Simba back. Material stuff comes and goes." The appeal highlights the personal nature of the crime, which transcended a simple robbery.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Concern
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed it is actively investigating the case. The bizarre nature of the crime—combining a violent break-in with the targeted theft of a high-value pet—has raised eyebrows and caused concern within the local community.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of crime. While businesses often fortify against theft of cash or goods, the targeting of a cherished animal adds a deeply personal and distressing dimension to the violation.
