A group of thieves ram-raided a cash machine in south-west London after failing to break it open with a hammer.
The incident took place outside a Londis store on Kingston Road in Teddington. Around 12.50am, a man wearing a beanie was captured on CCTV hammering the ATM to try to pry it open. When that failed, he opened the boot of a blue car parked alongside and took out a white cable, which he and the driver tied around the cash machine.
The driver then got back into the car and ripped the machine from the pavement. The first man remained outside the store, checking whether any cash had fallen to the ground. A young woman can be seen on CCTV walking past, seemingly unaware of the heist happening beside her.
Police appeal for information
Police are looking for four men believed to be involved in the theft, after an abandoned vehicle was seized. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating the theft of a cash machine from outside a shop in Kingston Road, Teddington at 00:53hrs on Wednesday, 29 July. Although no arrests have been made at this stage, an abandoned vehicle has been seized in connection with the incident, and officers continue to work at pace to identify the four men believed to be involved.
