A "persistent and prolific" teenage shoplifter has been jailed and banned from entering any Tesco in County Durham. William White, 19, of Pelton, was sentenced at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court after pleading guilty to a number of shoplifting counts.
Jail term and court order
White was jailed for 44 weeks and given a two-year criminal behaviour order. Under the order, he cannot enter any Tesco in County Durham, the Co-op in Leadgate, the Spar in Southmoor, or the Premier Store in Consett. He must also leave any retail premises when asked to do so by a member of staff.
Police response
Consett Neighbourhood Inspector Andy Liddell of Durham Constabulary said: "White has been persistent and prolific with his offending across several shops in our communities. This type of criminal behaviour will not be tolerated. Shoplifting can have a serious impact on retailers, and we will continue to pursue shoplifters who bring harm to our communities with their offending."
