Three individuals have been arrested and a fourth is being sought by police in connection with a high-value burglary at the Ohio home of NFL quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The break-in occurred in November while the Cleveland Browns rookie was making his professional debut.
Suspects Named and Arrests Made
The Medina County Sheriff's Office held a news conference on Thursday to announce the developments. The four suspects have been identified as Jarvet Myrick, Deandrez Jackson, Maurice Exavier Taylor, and Carlos Deanthony Morris.
Authorities confirmed that Myrick was arrested on November 26, Jackson on December 16, and Taylor on December 29. However, Carlos Deanthony Morris remains at large, with an active warrant issued for his arrest. All four men are facing second-degree felony burglary charges.
The Alleged Crime Spree
According to Detective Rodney Rees, the lead investigator, the group is accused of travelling from Atlanta, Georgia, to Ohio in a stolen rental car. They reportedly stayed at a hotel in Medina Township prior to targeting Sanders' property.
Security footage from inside the home and a neighbour's camera captured three men entering the residence. Police state the burglars were inside for only 12 minutes but managed to take an estimated $200,000 worth of designer tote bags and other high-priced items. None of the stolen goods have been recovered.
A Pattern of High-End Targets
Detective Rees described the suspects as targeting affluent individuals. "They target high-end individuals who have a lot of money, and they go to their houses, they break in, and they take anything of value, and they go and sell it," he stated.
He added that the group are considered violent and are linked to at least one other burglary in Georgia, for which they are also indicted. "They’re part of two burglaries we know of and possibly a third one where they were seen running away with guns in their hands," Rees explained.
The three arrested suspects, currently in custody in Georgia, are awaiting extradition to Ohio to face the charges. The investigation was a joint effort between the Medina County Sheriff's Office and authorities in Georgia.
Sanders' Light-Hearted Response
Speaking in late December after a Browns victory, Shedeur Sanders addressed the incident with humour, though he acknowledged the personal loss. "I really love gifts, I don't think for Christmas I got much," Sanders said. "If anybody out there wants to send me gifts, I'll put my PO Box online."
He specifically mentioned the items taken, stating, "Please send clothes, jewelry, bags. All my bags got stolen when my house got robbed."
